Your first visit

A first visit starts with what helps

A placement visit is a short time in our pool with an instructor, and a parent or caregiver stays for all of it.

  • How your swimmer gets in

However suits your swimmer, with an instructor or a caregiver beside them.

    • The ramp

    • The wide steps

    • The lift

    • From the side of the pool

  • What the water and the room are like

Some swimmers like to start where it is quiet, and some like to see everything first.

    • The shallow corner

    • Sitting on the steps first

    • A look around before getting in

  • How we talk and show

You know how your swimmer takes things in, so you tell us and we follow.

    • Words

    • Signs or picture cards

    • Showing first

    • Following your swimmer's lead

  • Who stays close

Every swimmer has an instructor in the water. Tell us who else helps most.

    • A caregiver in the water

    • A caregiver on the deck

    • A caregiver behind the glass

How it goes

From the front door to a class

  1. 01

    Step 1: Book a time

Choose a time on our enrollment page, or call. Tell us the swimmer's age and anything you want us to know first.

  2. 02

Step 2: Tell us what helps

We ask about each of these, in the water or on the deck, whichever your swimmer likes.

  3. 03

    Step 3: Get in together

Your swimmer gets in the way you chose. We try a few things, watch how each one feels and go at your swimmer's pace.

  4. 04

Step 4: Leave with a level

The instructor suggests a level, and we show you the classes with room.

In the water

Start where your swimmer is

Some swimmers start at the wall in the shallow end, some on the steps, and some with a noodle under their arms. All of them begin at their own pace, and the level we suggest is only where we begin.

What to bring

A towel, and whatever helps

Bring a swimsuit or a swim shirt, a towel and a change of clothes. Goggles, a cap or a favorite float are welcome if they help. If your swimmer uses a mobility device, we plan where it waits at the pool.
